Building a Scientific Community: The History of ACA Meetings

The history of ACA meetings is rooted in the vibrant legacy of three predecessor organizations—the ASXRED, CSA, and ACA—whose leaders and gatherings helped shape the foundation of modern crystallographic collaboration in North America. From the early presidencies of ASXRED, CSA, and the formative years of the ACA (1941–46), to the landmark meetings held by these groups between 1941 and 1957, this chronology reflects the evolution of a community committed to advancing structural science. For more than seven decades, the ACA Annual Meeting has continued that tradition, bringing together crystallographers, structural scientists, and students to exchange ideas, celebrate breakthroughs, and build lasting connections. This historical account highlights the milestones, people, and scientific achievements that have defined our collective journey.
